5. PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD
5D Stacy Segura, a Glendora resident, spoke in
opposition to lighting the
sports fields at Goddard and Sandburg Schools. She said the City of Oxnard
has avoided lighting public schools for several reasons, including overuse
of the turf areas, bringing young people to the schools after dark, and
allowing quiet times for the surrounding residents.
5E Frank Meyers, a Glendora resident spoke in
opposition to lighting the
sports fields at Goddard and Sandburg Schools. He noted that the fields are
not used on Saturday afternoons.
5F Mike Willman, a Glendora resident, spoke in
opposition to lighting the
sports fields at Goddard and Sandburg Schools. He said it has been reported
that soccer teams have opted not to practice on Fridays, which is a
self-imposed 20% reduction of field space availability. He urged
Councilmembers to remain proactive on this issue and to visit the sports
fields and surrounding residential communities.
5G Doug Tessitor, a Glendora resident, referred to the City
Manager’s budget report. He said the Glendora Marketplace was approved by
the voters and it is contributing to the City’s tax base. He said
expansion of the
Louie Pompei
Sportspark would add four additional practice fields.
5H Vern Ware spoke in opposition to the proposed
increase
in fees for recreational activities, specifically basketball. He
urged Council to consider gradual increases rather than one large increase.
6. COUNCIL REPORTS AND STATEMENTS
6C Councilmember Clifford concurred with Glendora resident
Doug Tessitor and said further
development of Louie Pompei Sports Park should occur as soon as
possible.
6O Councilmember Herman referred to lighting the sports
fields at Goddard and Sandburgand said there are alternatives and this
Council does not want to upset
neighborhoods. He said Louie Pompei Sports Park is an under utilized
asset and its expansion should be considered.
